Post subject: Turn Off Incorrect Backlight Controls  PostPosted: 24.11.2014, 11:01

Good morning,

I recently did my first system upgrade in a very, very long time. In the process of doing so, I lost the ability to control my screen brightness. I tried several of the steps Google pointed me to, including the acpi_video=vendor command line switch, but none of those did what I wanted. I eventually sort of solved the problem by installing nvidiabl, which does correctly control the brightness and turn it down to a low enough level that it's not burning my eyes.

The problem is that I've been unable to figure out how to disable the backlight interfaces aside from nvidiabl, and as such, KDE ignores nvidiabl entirely while every time Iceweasel loads a page with a Flash applet on it, my brightness reverts to maximum and I have to scramble to turn it back down. When I use the vendor switch, it presents me with an asus module that controls several other features, while not running the vendor switch gives me acpi_video0 and acpi_video1. I want to just disable the backlight controls other than nvidiabl.

Any thoughts on how to go about accomplishing this? I'm hopeful that if only one interface is available, my problems will cease and KDE will begin to acknowledge the screen brightness again.

Thanks!

- Trip
