As it is known from other Linux distribution Linux Mint, there is the VLC player the default player.
I suggest therefore that VLC can be installed in the next Aptosid-version, if the developers and other people from this forum have nothing against. Smile

Greetings
Higher

P.S.
I ask for serious reactions, no commands that can be applied elsewhere. Wink

You don't give a reason.
What linux mint does is not important.

I like VLC and I have it installed, but is bloated. I also have kaffeine installed and it is my default player. kaffeine plays 99% of the media I throw at it and it is made to work better in a kde environment than VLC. Programs included in the iso should be reliable, small, and well integrated. kaffeine isn't exactly small, perhaps dragonplayer would satisfy those 3 criteria.

As always, I'll stick with "wow, it's finished already!" Once the system is up and running, I'll happily install the remaining bits that I want.

while i am also a huge fan of vlc, it comes with a pretty heft set of dependencies, so it probably won't make the cut. kaffeine is more than functional and vlc is only an apt-get install away.

I'm surprised this topic appears unfiltered.

Oops, I didn't write a reason, because I forgot it Laughing.

The reason why should VLC be a preinstalled and a standart-player in Aptosid is that: VLC ist faster,it playes everything and its free so I think a lot of new/old users will be very satisfied with it.

I don't like Kaffeine, because if I want to scroll a video forward I have to use the mouse wheel, and on VLC just the (I don't know what's name of this thing)pull to right or left side to rinse the video forward or back.Wink

I can scroll back and forth using Kaffeine's slider control. Perhaps you have a flaky install, which would certainly dampen one's enthusiasm.

It is like vim vs emacs, kate vs kwrite and thousend other editors, netbeans vs eclipse...
Everybody has his preferences. Yes, i prefer also vlc, but i also prefer xfce and mutt as email client.
Is is a apt-get install away.

As technically reason again vlc i would point to its size. Over 15MB. As said it is one apt-get install away.

Hmmm...

If VLC is too "fat" for KDE-Lite, I suggest it can be preinstalled on KDE-Full Wink.
15 MB for such programm like VLC is normal.

the iso file of kde-lite are 590 mb or i am wrong?
I would think that 15 mb are no longer a problem.
the problem of vlc are the plasmoid that not support it (except daisy, because i asked at the developer XD).
In fact I'm working on my first plasmoid to make a controller for vlc.
Also vlc is famous also in the windows ambient then for who approaches aptosid find something that has already seen.
