Post subject: kdenlive starts with fatal error

kdenlive does not start. On the welcome screen the following error message is shown:
"Fatal Error
MLT's SDL module not found. Please check yout MLT installation. Kdenlive will not work until this issue is fixed"
Googling for this error revealed some hints, but nothing helped.
This appeared on a fully updated amd64 installation, but also on live systems x86 and amd64 with kdenlive installed after startup.
I tested installation of recommended and suggested packages, but that didn't help either.

Kdenlive works fine here.
Try removing ~/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc |

That's what I got from google. Problem is, there is no such file on my system.
I have tried so far:
- Sidux based 32 bit installation moved to aptosid and dist-upgraded to latest versions
- Fresh 64bit install 2011-2 install with latest updates
- Live 32 bit system
- Live 64 bit system
On none of them kdenlive is working and none of them has the file kdenliverc.

In the meantime I got a kdenliverc file from a working system and copied it to .kde/share/config. With this file, kdenlive ist starting now!
I see a difference when I start kdenlive in a terminal.
Without kdenliverc:

format: YUV 4:2:2 (YUYV)
With kdenliverc:
Code:
project monitor connected
clip monitor connected

Thought that kdenlive creates the kdenliverc file by running the first run configuration wizard which can be accessed via Settings>Run Configuration Wizard
But funny in your case no rc file got created on first run |

Yeah, and because this happens even on a clean live system I consider it a bug. |

Normally when kdenlive starts for the first time the configuration wizard runs and you select the configuration options then when it's finished the program itself loads. |

I did some more testing.
If I manually create a kdenlivrc with only these two lines:

version=0.8
kdenlive starts up without error and updates kdenliverc with the missing information. |

That does not happen here. Start window tells me that it will start the configuration wizard, but I cannot continue since the "Next" button is disabled (see attached screen shot) |

Did you try:

rm ~/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc
If that fails then try purging then reinstalling these packages:
kdenlive
kdenlive-data
melt
libmlt++3
libmlt4 |
