Am I allowed to upload an Aptosid iso with current e17 for others to try? Would I need to remove branding? Wasn't sure where to look for info o this.
Thanx,

If you publish remasters (or costum built masters), please remove branding and do not promote them as "Aptosid". Feel free however to mention that you have based it on Aptosid. Please make clear that no support can be given in Aptosid forums or IRC for such experiments, the people who test it need to communicate problems with you.
Due to it's close relationship with Debian and it's rolling release character Aptosid is probably also not the best choice to create remasters.
Greetings,

Is it allowed to keep the aptosid artwork(or perhaps add own artwork and keep the aptosid-art as additional artwork), or has it to be removed, too? |

We don't run a strict policy - we simply want to avoid misunderstandings. I think keeping the aptosid artwork as an additional artwork installed is no big problem, but I will discuss this with the entire team and report here.

Thanx but that begs the question is Aptosid a good choice then? I mean I'd be offering Aptosid with e17 2011 and a basically functional remastersys...
One more question- I know Mint doesn't mind having their name still on the kernel. Would I have to remove The Aptosid name from the kernel??
What if I made it clear this was not an Aptosid release?
Sincerely,
Xeta |

What kernel you use is not the issue, its more ensuring that whatever you have remastered is clearly not from aptosid, so the release notes should also be your own and not the release notes from us.
As for running E17 in sid, there was some chatter about it being a bit fragile however I have no idea beyond that, good luck though.

It might have been unstable, but I haven't found it so and I've been a solid user for over a year and a half. I occasionally get an error when I close a window but it's never caused a system glitch. Or say invisible icons for kde apps in engage, but I found if you change those as root, they appear. I really enjoy it. Shortly after PCLinuxOS stopped KDE 3.5+ I went searching for a new home. I found it in e17.
(rambling now ) IMO XFCE and LXDE have it over KDE4 or God help me 'Ubuntu Unity' but I find e17 exciting and learning it has been fun. Like Distrowatch says "Put the fun back into computing".
Maybe this afternoon I'll start trying to rebrand it. Maybe not
Best wishes,
Xeta |
