Starting with kernel 2.6.36-0.slh.2-aptosid-{686,amd64}, the previous staging driver "r8192s_usb", used for RealTek RTL8188S, RTL8191S and RTL8192S USB wlan devices, will be replaced by its (also staging-) successor r8712u. This will significantly improve stability and compatibility with other wlan chipsets.
r8712u requires a new firmware not packaged in firmware-realtek yet, please make sure to download:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/lwfinger/r8712u_firmware.git;a=blob_plain;f=rtl8712u.bin
and store it as

It is recommended to keep firmware-realtek installed as well. |

I'm afraid the official firmware location has been changed again (to its final published destination), which will be represented in the new 2.6.36-0.slh.3-aptosid-{686,amd64} kernel. Starting with that new kernel update, the temporary /lib/firmware/rtl8712u/rtl8712u.bin will not be needed anymore.
r8712u requires a new firmware not packaged in firmware-realtek yet, please make sure to download:

and store it as
