Hi,

I have a Bluetooth adapter plugged into a USB port of my PC:
      Code:

Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0a5c:21e8 Broadcom Corp. BCM20702A0 Bluetooth 4.0

I am also registered as a user to group "bluetooth".

Unfortunately, KDE does not find this adapter. It is not possible to search for it ("Keine Adapter gefunden" - "no adaptors found").

It seems that at some point the startup parameters of the bluetoothd were changed, as I get:

      Code:
root@pucki:~# /etc/init.d/bluetooth force-reload
[ ok ] Stopping bluetooth: rfcomm /usr/sbin/bluetoothd.
[....] Starting bluetooth: bluetoothd rfcomm/usr/bin/rfcomm: invalid option -- 'f'

when attempting to reload the bluetooth drivers/daemon.

What was the --f option used for? How can I circumvent this option?

The adaptor is not blocked:
      Code:

root@pucki:~# rfkill list
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

I did all apt-get dist-upgrades that were available, including new kernels.

Thanks for any hint and many regards,
Crypto.

Did it ever work on aptosid before?

I'm asking because several Broadcom bluetooth adaptors need a firmware, so if yours is one of those (dmesg might tell about failing attempts to load the firmware), it wouldn't work without that firmware image being present and loaded. Another issue seems to be that bluetooth in general is slightly troubled lately, not completely broken, but unreliable (sometimes requiring manual /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart et al) - so far it's not completely understood if it's a breakage caused by kernel 3.12 or a side effect of KDE 3.10 (both became available around the same time and I'm not actually using bluetooth myself, which makes debugging a little harder).

Hi,

yes, it has worked on aptosid before, and that quite well. It was ok somewhen before kernel 3.12 came up.

There are no problems reported by dmesg related to missing firmware.
I have noticed that this appears to be a massive problem of other ppl. as well who are unable to connect their bluetooth devices.

Further to the strange --f message that I get: this option indicates that bluetoothd should use the rfcomm device and pass the file /usr/bin/rfcomm to it. This option actually exists in the binary if I attempt to list it (it is a binary but the options can seen in the binary), so the warning "invalid option --f" is really strange. The rfcomm config file is actually useless, because all options are disabled in the file.

Regards,
Crypto.

In case a newer /updated firmware should be required: What could I do to get this new firmware?

As I said before I doubt it is a firmware problem because this adaptor has worked fine on my system before the new kernel came up and no problems are reported by dmesg regarding missing firmware.
