hello friends, have any of you had success installing aptosid to a chromebook? i've got a c710-2847 model and would like to install aptosid.

Google's Chromebook lineup, even including the x86 specimens, is considerably different from normal x86 PC hardware. The initial mainboard firmware is completely different, actually there are even two different approaches (for x86, plus yet another for armhf based hardware), H2C-UEFI for the earlier generations and coreboot+uboot for the later. Both of these require either a google signed payload (exclusive to their own chromeos) or to put your device into developer mode, thereby deleting all custom settings and existing data. Because of these different firmware designs, both kernels and bootloader would need significant adaptions to be compatible with this kind of hardware, which would also require a dedicated, chromebook specific, installer (actually two, one for H2C-UEFI and another for coreboot+uboot) and installation media.
While it would quite likely be possible to adapt aptosid to the chromebook's special requirements[1], none of the aptosid developers has had access to these devices yet and the required adaptions are far beyond step-by-step guides. Therefore neither the downloadable ISOs, the supported bootloaders, the kernels, nor the installer support this hardware; chances of this changing are rather low as well.
[1] Considering that Google has already released three different, incompatible, chromebook platforms over the last three years, this would quickly get out of hand though. |

thank you for the prompt reply slh.
i *have* found the instructions for getting my x86 chromebook into developer mode, but it sounds like you're telling me that trying to "boot to usb", either from a stick or to a usb harddisk install isn't going to work.
