Prosposed I only would use iceweasel and icedove with aptosid, which packages/scripts could I safely '--purge remove' from my system (i.e. KDE-lite)? Or is there an easier way to start with a "bare-bone-aptosid(?)" and to install for instance, iceweasel, etc. afterwards? |

Thank you for your answer, slam, but I am thinking about a kernel with a console, so that I could start from a very early stage of gathering the various software together.
Regarding that your response is the only one, maybe I have to come to the conclusion that my above idea is not "interesting" or does not live in the aptosid-community.
Greetings,

Jorg,
We get the request for some super minimal ISO every once in a while. I've built a couple (and use it on a few installs). It's "not interesting" in that we don't have the personnel to support the innumerable issues that can arise from using such an ISO, so we don't publish one officially. If you really want a truly hand picked ISO, check out pyfll from the svn and build your own. Just keep in mind, you're completely on your own there.
Enjoy & Good Luck! |

If you want to stick with aptosid, to begin with, rather then starting with a minimal install of, say, sid, there is hardly a need to remove anything. It would appear you are not limited to the size of ISO, but just want a limited system running.
A possible action here might be installing rcconf, running it (root) and just disabling everything you do not want to run (including login manager). Then in console (you can choose Ctrl-Alt-F2 - F7 and xinit -- :1 ) run what you need, - using a minimal window manager if need be, screen or just running iceweasel and such in full screen. Of course, you can start removing whatever you do not need, if needed. |

Thank you, detaos and vokaria, for your kind answers. Other relevant information I found under "siduction wishlist # 512" - just a hint for other interested people.
