Hi @all,

got a problem with the current Live-CD (aptosid-2011-03-ponos-kde-full-i386-amd64-201112312100.iso). Starting KDE fails in the second step (second part of the appearing of the logo) and I don't understand why...

The log reports an error describing that there is no space left on a sdb-partition ([sdb] Asking for cache data failed )... But I don't have any second disk and also no usb-stick plugged in, that's why there should not be an sdb-partition, just sda1-sda5...! Fstab looks normal as well and tells the same...

So I tried the old Live-CD of 2010. Here KDE starts, but a warning appears, that the bookmark in /home/aptosid/.local/share//user-places.xbel can't be saved because of missing access rights and that the reason is probably too less disk capacity.

This folder is mounted under "aufs" where 3.7 Gb are free.

I think that a warning like this appears as well with the new Live-CD, but the window disappears too fast for me to be able to read the warning.

Can anybody help me?! Really want to install the new aptosid-Version...!

regards

Nic

I would suggest leaving your computer to run memtest overnight to see if you have memory issues.

Also make sure you have good boot media by using the md5sum boot option (just type md5sum or pick it from the F5 menu). You want to do this in another computer if you can just in case bad ram or a bad dvd drive or something is causing corruption on the fly.

The fact you have a problem with the current and an old iso suggests some machine specific problem though like a hardware problem (hence memtest) or hardware bug (upgrading the motherboard firmware is unlikely to hurt).

Hi,

thanks for that hint. the checksum is correct and the new Live-CD DOES work on my other laptop, so I think I can assume that the source is ok.

If it's a hardware problem the question is why the apate-Version of the Live-CD starts and the ponos-Version does not...? I'll run a memtest later, what results should I expect? (Never ran a memtest to be honest...). But it's strange anyway because the old aptosid-Version has been working on that notebook (Dell Vostro 1220) without any hardware problems...

Have run a memtest... ran without errors... I would assume that the hardware isn't the problem. Any further suggestions?

Would be interesting to see the full output of
      Code:
ls -la /dev/disk/by-uuid/

on the machine that don't like the live-cd
