Post subject: (not really solved) b43 bug

I do not mean to cross-post, but came to the conclusion that this is more of a bug than a software issue.
While installing Imera 64 KDE full, I came across this warning and the installer offered to execute the code, which I accepted.
Later on, added non-free source to my debian.list and installed free and non-free firmware as per the manual.
Fw-detect prompted me to run some code which I did to no avail.
Yesterday, in the course of an apt-get update and dist-upgrade I noted that the b43 package was upgraded.
I thought that my problems solved, but same error while executing in same init 3 shell.
Rebooted, same old.

apt-get update
apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
modprobe -r b43
modprobe b43
You must first configure apt to install this non-free software,

All this has been run several times to no avail.
I installed package network-manager and my wireless is no longer disabled.
This is output from lshw:

I never used either Ceni or network-manager.
I just installed network-manager because it was a recommended package while installing another one, I believe Evolution.
Suddenly, wireless lit up and started to work.
I seldom use wireless in that computer, so have not configured it.
Package firmware-b43-lpphy-installer reports that it cannot find suitable cards, recommends using b43 proper or legacy.
Of course, since wireless works this is urgency=low.
However notification in fw-detect is still there.
It is just a bit annoying, up to you to report a bug to maintainer. |

If b43-lpph-installer does not find a fitting card, de-install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer, and re-install firmware-b43-installer. After that run firmware-b43-installer to provide the correct firmware. The message will vanish then.
This is intended behaviour of our firmware-detection, it will cry until all needed firmware is correctly loaded.
No Bug, moved to "Hardware".

Thanks for clarification.
3 remarks:
1.
What command do you recommend to "de-install" b43-lpphy-installer? remove? purge? remove --purge?
2.
There is something that needs to be tweaked, because fw-detect is issuing instructions that do not work

I never installed firmware-b43-installer, so cannot re-install it, can only install after removing the other one.
I am getting great support from aptosid, my new distro of choice, will recommend in my LUG. |

| firmware-b43-lpphy-installer provides the recommended for all (non-802.11n) Broadcom wlan devices these days (it's ABI compatible, but a newer version of those provided by firmware-b43-installer), however the packaged firmware-b43-lpphy-installer might try to be a bit too smart for its own good (this may be worth a bugreport at priority 'minor')... |

Followed instructions and, after both modprobe, fw-detect is quiet now.

I think a bug report should be filed as slh suggests. |

I must correct myself on one count.
b43 driver is installed, according to lshw, and wireless LED is up.
However, fw-detect still insists on calling for
Code:
apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer
which has been purged.
Cannot get rid of the warning. |
